Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition

Recently I have been playing Super Street Fighter IV, Arcade Edition for the PC. A game you probably would play on a console. I personally hate controllers and joysticks, so I use my PC keyboard most of the time. XBOX360 controllers are horrible and the worst, I can’t even do a normal hadoken fluently with it.

Juri

Of course a keyboard has its limits, try to do a button smashing move, like Zangiefs ultra combo with a keyboard, I haven’t managed to do that with a keyboard yet. Characters like Akuma, Oni, Juri, Adon, Sagat and of course noob characters like Ryu and Ken can be played easily with a keyboard. I really sucked when playing online in the old Street fighter 4, but this new game has a lot of beginners, so I am making some player and battle points. My winning rate is currently around the 62 procent. I’m a little stuck between the 600-800 battle points and my record is 1014 battle points in Super Street Fighter 4, Arcade edition.

I have been playing a lot with Juri and I like her style. She is much better than Akuma, a favorite fighter I used to play in Street Fighter IV. Akuma or Gouki has a horrible defense and vitality in general and people like to punch in his guts in a online match. I like the new replay feature too, thanks Capcom! Now I just have to record the replay using Fraps, it saves a lot of cpu power. I uploaded some of my epic fights on my Youtube channel, please watch my gameplay too Smile By the way, who wants to challenge me in a online match in SSFIV Arcade Edition for PC?

I haven’t installed any nude mods or alternate costumes yet. I had some nude mods for Cammy, maybe I shall look for a Juri nude mod too Smile

No much anime news this time, so I decided to post a gaming related article. I’m also working in the backyard these days, because we are building a huge pond for nishikigoi, sturgeons and other pond fishes. My school canceled the august job, the assholes didn’t even call me, so I really want to fix the pond this month. There will be a waterfall and many more decorations, it keeps me busy, but I like it.

How come the videos are so slow?

    • http://www.animeonsen.com/members/admin/ Otaku

Because I was doing other things while recording the replays with Fraps at the same time at 1080p and 30fps, loss-less. I should have edited the playback speed in Adobe Premiere, but I am lazy. I have a Core i5 with 8GB DDR3 and a GTS250 card.

Do you play this game too?

I don’t have it but I did play regular SSF4 at my friend’s house. I don’t really play competitively on PC, I’d rather buy it on PS3. TBH I’m still stuck in the 3rd Strike/MvC2 era^^

Talk about coincidence… I just bought Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for PlayStation, and it’s the first Street Fighter installment I’ve ever played (I know, right?). But here’s the thing: I’m used to playing Soul Calibur, and to me, the gameplay seems… rigid. It’s like everything seems to go a bit slower than it’s supposed to. Also, I’ve no idea what the hell I’m doing, since it’s my first time trying, and apparently button smashing doesn’t help a lot (which is a good thing, if you ask me). The fact that there’s no unlockable characters, though, really doesn’t give you any incentive to start playing. There’s just no prize to win.

But still, to me, a beginning player, it just doesn’t seem to appeal… After an hour or so, I just took out the disc and continued playing GT5.

Maybe I need to get into it more?

There are unlockable characters in SFIV, like Akuma, Gouken and Seth. They removed it in SSFIV and SSFIV arcade edition, maybe they think fans already unlocked them in SFIV, so unlocking them again in SSFIV and doing the whole proces again will make fans mad.

There are bonus stages and trials in the game. Also you get battle points, player points and a rank in every online match. I’m currently in rank C or D+ for most fighters. Its fun to play with friends and kick their ass once in a while. I never liked controllers or console gaming in general. I use my keyboard as I said, it has a little arcade feeling and I think it reacts way faster than any other input device.

Try to start with Ryu, Ken or Sagat. Those fighters and their moves are easy to play. Do not play Vega, Bison or Seth in the beginning, they are harder to play, and I still don’t know how some of their moves work, but who cares I have plenty of other fighters to choose from.

I have never played Soul Calibur seriously, so I can’t say anything about its speed. I only played soul calibur on a Wii once, but I stuck somehwere so never played it again. Of course the gameplay isnt that flashy and fast like the latest marvel vs capcom, but the speed is comparable to other games like tekken and mortal combat.

Compared to like ST, Alpha 3, 3rd Strike, SF4 is quite slow for a SF. And IMO, unlocking stuff in fighting games is a dumb idea. Games like these are meant to be quick fun and ready to pick up and play with friends. I don’t wanna sit through many hours to get all the characters.

If you have no idea how to play, there’s plenty of tutorials on Youtube. Trials show you moves and combos to do, but they don’t tell you HOW to use them nor show fundamentals like pokes, footsies, controlling spaces and blocking which are what SF is all about. And yeah, I agree with Otaku: shotos (Ryu, Ken, Sak), Sagat are pretty straightforward characters with straightforward moves. Maybe Guile too and it’s gonna introduce you to ‘charge’ characters.

I gotta agree with Otaku on one more point too: Xbox 360 controllers really suck ass for fighting games. PS3′s are less worse. I too prefer the keyboard, it definitely gives a little arcade feeling but with clunkier buttons and my reactions/executions are way better on it.

Oh yeah, getting friends to play with can be a good incentive. It gets you to be more competitive also.

To be honest, it really annoys me that Capcom thinks releasing the game again with a few extra characters, some additional modes and a bunch of tweaks is a valid business strategy. That’s patch and DLC material! It ain’t worth a full price release!

Capcom has always been like that. I must say that they really improved the online gaming part and the game runs a little lighter too. What annoys me are those ridiculous alternate costumes. Seriously I fought someone fighting in this costume. Why did he buy that costume? To confuse me in a fight?

I’ve been playing a lot of SSFIVAE on the PS3 lately, I really used to play with Fei Long a lot but the new Jun is pretty awesome too. I do agree with you about the Xbox 360 controllers but I play with a Arcade Stick most of the time, I just love the arcade feel!
