Anime Onsen's evil marketing strategies

Recently I have been thinking about boosting the popularity of this website, of course good content is king, but a little marketing is also important. I am not talking about online marketing strategies, like social networks, SEO, link exchanges or blog commenting. Those are things that every webmaster do these days. By the way this post is NSFW.

What I mean is real life marketing strategies, like ambush marketing and (il)legal guerilla marketing. People who talk to me through msn know that I recently ordered 500 businesscards and 150 stickers to promote Anime Onsen and it’s ecchiness in anime, manga and otakuism. I already spread some of the stickers in my neighboorhood. Lampposts and public trash bins are my favorite targets for example. I did not paste anything on signs, because I think that is very much vandalism. There are people who have to clean that shit, but who cares about trash bins and lampposts, those are fine to decorate with stickers I suppose Smile

Ok, spreading stickers in public places is not very targeted marketing I think, but it is a funny thing to do. I also have those 500 business cards, not sure what to do with those yet. Maybe spread some at Animecon in the hotel and in Almelo city. Maybe I will leave a businesscard in every hotel room Twisted I will probably order more stickers if this strategy works, but those will be waterproof stickers in the future.

I have thought of a guerilla marketing strategy too while talking to PJ on msn. A huge sticky poster with the text “Love tentacles? —> AnimeOnsen.com” and stick it somewhere at the police station. Well that is kinda bullshit actually, cuz never fuck with the cops. However I think you get the idea of guerilla marketing. Maybe you have a better and less risky idea?

Another cool idea was mentioned by Marco: subliminal messages. It is great, but I do not know an awesome concept yet. Would you like to help poor Otaku by spamming the world with stickers and business cards? Or do you just like to paste stickers on random places? Here is your opportunity to become an evil otaku! Send me your contact details and write down your motivation and address and I will send you some stickers plus business cards for free. You do not have to send me an empty letter with stamp or anything. Unfortunately I cannot send post outside the Netherlands, cuz it will cost me too much. Interested? Drop me an E-mail and make sure you do not waste any of them and spread them to the world!

Seriously I don not care how you spread them, as long you use your human brain and respects common values. Do not paste them on a bumper of a car for example, unless it is yours or you really know him or her in person.

Warning: pasting stickers on public or private places is a very popular marketing strategy used by companies and marketeers, however it might be an illegal activity in most cases. Make sure you do not get caught or just do it in a legal way! These activities are at your own risk and I am not responsible for any damage in any way that might be happening to you.

Did you like the nipple slip in the banner image? Here is the full image. It is an image from the eroge game Chu x Chu idol. I have never played it though, but PJ send me this image yesterday.

ChuxChu

I also attached to other hentai or ecchi images to this post, one from the same game and the other is a cameltoe version of Charlotte from Infinite Stratos. Also I have never watched that show, but who cares… the picture is damn hot and it matches todays weather. Here are image 1 and image 2.

Hopefully you like it, but back to my original story. Click here to see a design sample of the stickers and here the business cards. I have also attached a real photo of Menace holding my card:

only 40 stickers left of the 150. I have a new idea for a sticker. One with a QR code.

Your business card is lovely Smile
As much as I agree with the importance of both on and offline marketing, from my experience those cards don’t work that well. Simply because the moment you hand them over, people do not have internet. and the moment they snuck behind a pc they already forgot about your card Frown
Instead of handing over cards, you should hold a prize contest where people have to fill in their e-mail, just so you can send them the results when theyre actually behind a pc ;D
Anyway i was commenting here because you stumbled like every page of your blog, and they all land on the homepage ._. tis annoying T_T fix your online marketing first! Razz

hmmm… what browser do you use? My permalink structure has been changed from http://www.animeonsen.com/news_updates/anime-onsens-evil-marketing-strategies/ to http://www.animeonsen.com/blog/news_updates/anime-onsens-evil-marketing-strategies/ for example. Maybe that is the problem. Yeah I enabled WordPress MU, was forced to use the word blog in the url.

Yeah, I noticed too that it is hard to get rid of 500 cards. Also people think it is spam or something and throw it away.

I did hold an AMV contest some time ago, but nobody really submit something. Not sure what kinda contest I should hold. By the way I like your website Smile

Maybe 500 stickers and 150 cards was a better idea than 500 cards and 150 stickers.

what do you think of t-shirt marketing?

        • http://kurohentai.com/ Kuro

thanks! i feel the layout of my site is still a bit simplish but i dont do well designing Frown
i guess its the link being wrong then, i use ff and chrome..
it kind of made me want to block your site but i saw this topic Razz
too bad to hear your cards didnt work out well Frown
actually i didnt really mean ‘contest’.. more like a prize *draw*. obviously you dont want people to get creative cuz theyre lazy and wont apply Razz so like maybe you can showcase some manga or anime figs for people to win Smile make them join the draw with their email, and after the convention you make a post announcing the winner and send everyone an email saying to check your link if they won ^^ gives them a reminder and a reason to visit.
i can imagine people will fancy getting stickers more, but i think they prob still wont use them, when was the last time you sticked some sites url on your desk. Rolls Eyes
i nvr tried shirts but im guessing they work. i actually wanted to do that once at some con, mainly cuz there never any cool designs.. but i got lazy/bored creating the image ehe. if you make a nice shirt im sure people will wear it. just dont make it appear to commercial. you can always make your friends wear them to a convention Razz

I’m kinda busy lately, but it is a subject worth thinking about. Also I am lazy in design sometimes.
